I just wanted to thank you for what you [Dr. Greg Burkard, Jr.] do. For all the time you spent studying to become a doctor. I didn't realize how much my life was affected by pain until these last two epidurals you did for me. I actually want to get up and cook dinner for a change! And doing laundry doesn't seem so daunting anymore. I'm sure my husband and kids appreciate it as well.

I want you to know that your teams met the promise of an integrative approach. Dr. Orr and his team, Dr. Peterson and his family practice team, the team of physical therapists, particularly Hudson Wilvers and Leeann Mills and, of course, the fitness team, particularly Kyler Crouse and my key everyday contact, Ryan Carr. Integrative is easy to say, but hard to do in everyday practice, even more so in a pandemic. From the quality of the interactions in the ER, all the way through to recovery, I have been thoughtfully and enthusiastically supported in my recovery goals.

Thank you [Dr. Greg Burkard, Jr.] for all the help you have given me. You are a "rare commodity". Kind and compassionate. Your empathy shines through. It is a pleasure to have a doctor who cares about his patients and not the bottom line.

I came in after a skiing accident for an emergency femur surgery to the Barton Hospital on March 8th, 2020. Although I was on quite a bit of pain medicine by the time I arrived, I do remember Larissa taking quite good care of me. I also remember Dr. Orr explaining the procedure. I feel lucky that I had such a great surgeon. Every follow up appointment down in San Francisco I had came with glowing reviews from the doctors. "It's almost completely anatomically correct" said one. I'm almost back to a completely normal daily life, working on getting back to running, but I never liked that much anyway. :) I have a daughter on the way and I'm thankful I'll be able to keep up with her. I just wanted to say thank you to Dr. Orr and the amazing staff that helped, you nailed it literally and figuratively. I hope you have all made it through this past year.

It has now been three months since my hip replacement [with Dr. Robert Rupp] at Barton and I couldn't be more pleased with the 'consistently exceptional care' that I received throughout the process.

Ready or not, rehab! And this is when I discovered angels hard at work making magic and miracles happen on the ground floor of this amazing facility in the forest; A shiny new state-of-the-art world of wellness wonder where every soul I came into contact with had wisdom to share of encouragement. And, in addition to the prescribed physical therapy, I learned about a program co-located within this paradise where I could continue to exercise the parts of me that remained intact so as to maintain a level of fitness in spite of my injury.

I had a climbing accident resulting in an open wrist fracture as well as a T12 fracture. I am so thankful to Dr. Robertson and Dr. Child for their excellent care. Of course, the unsung heroes are your fabulous nurses. Dr Robertson performed my wrist surgery; I'm back rock climbing again and I barely know I broke it. Amy from the OT department was also outstanding. Dr. Child gave me the chance to try healing the fracture without surgery which I am so grateful for. It was a long 12 weeks, but the immobilization worked and it was on to PT.

My story is typical of a lot of people who hobble through the doors at Barton Physical Therapy – an injured athlete in desperate hopes of recovery and rehabilitation. I never expected to encounter so much support in my journey. There is of course the facility, which is undeniably state-of-the-art. From contrast baths, to resistance training, to cardiovascular equipment and beyond, Barton’s investment in this area shows. The variety of programs, including physical therapy, performance therapy and group classes give every participant the opportunity to succeed in their rehabilitation and training goals.

My entire journey has been nothing but amazing. I can't say enough about all the medical staff and employees that led me through this journey. I am back to enjoying a quality of life that lets me enjoy beautiful hikes in Tahoe and beyond, to keeping up with my grandchildren and easily pushing a wheelchair on my volunteer days at Barton. Thank you for your "consistently exceptional care'!

My surgeon, my physical therapist, and my coaches came together for me under this new and magnificent roof to create a whole that was greater than the sum of its parts- and I was the beneficiary. My new wellness family of professionals with compassion, skills, insights, and experience, worked together to shape me back into and beyond a mere ambulatory and functional being. I will emerge stronger than ever. I am deeply grateful for this experience.

As your commercials so correctly say, the performance coaches designed a program that got me back to climbing, skiing and mountain biking. I am now back to doing all my sports and feel great. I’ve even kept my membership at the Center because there’s been no doubt that it continues to help me in numerous ways. Thanks to everyone who helped me have a complete recovery.
